Travel Safely

Over the past 44 years, we have weathered many storms, and have pulled through each time by putting our travelers' interests first. As you consider your comfort level with the new realities of travel for the coming seasons, we would like to share some of the steps we are taking to put your health and safety first. We will continue to evaluate and enhance these policies as time goes on and as public health recommendations are updated. When you are ready to travel again, we will be ready for you.

Safety Protocols

Covid Vaccine and Testing Requirements - Beginning October 1, 2021, proof of full Covid-19 vaccination for all travelers aged 12 and older will be required to join our Small Group Adventures. Some countries, accommodations, or activities may require proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test for entry regardless of vaccination status.

Sanitation Measures - Following guidelines from the CDC, WHO, and local authorities, we are reviewing and enhancing cleaning protocols with our staff and accommodation providers around the world on a regular basis to ensure they comply with the most current safety guidelines.

Social Distancing

Smaller Group Sizes - We pride ourselves on having some of the smallest group sizes in the industry, with an average of 8.2 travelers per Small Group Adventure in 2019.

Dining Flexibility - We are making our meals as flexible as possible, providing options for larger or separate tables whenever we can, and dining al fresco if possible!

Travel Solo - If you prefer your own private room, we have reduced the pricing of our single supplements.

Travel Private – Have your own “social bubble” of friends or family that you want to travel with? We have made it easier to book one of our small group itineraries exclusive to your group and have expanded our catalog of Private Journeys. Just choose your dates, and your travel companions!

We Take You Far from the Crowds - We’ve always specialized in taking our guests far away from the tourist crowds, but we are now tweaking many itineraries to put an even greater emphasis on solitude and nature.

Travel with the Experts

Our Team is Here to Help you Prepare - Our expert staff in our Berkeley office is here to provide advice and answer any questions you have as you prepare for your adventure. They are in constant communication with our teams on the ground and stay up to date on local regulations and restrictions.

You’ll be Well Supported and Looked After on the Ground - Our world-class Trip Leaders are highly trained and experienced professionals adept at navigating any potential challenges on the ground. Unlike some companies which may send young, enthusiastic American guides with a detailed trip manual to lead the tour, our Trip Leaders are local, well-connected, and experts in their regions. They will be sure you are taken care of from start to finish.

Book with Confidence

Flexible Booking Policies - We have always prided ourselves on having the most generous cancellation policies in the industry, but in order to give you more peace of mind during this time we have worked with our partners around the world to offer an even more flexible cancellation policy. For new sign ups on our Small Group Adventures, we are now offering a 100% refund up until 75 days before departure. *Some exceptions apply.

Travel Insurance - We recommend you protect your trip with Travelex Travel Protection Plan. Please Note: the Travelex plan does not offer Cancel For Any Reason coverage, you may want to look into an insurance policy that offers a “cancel for any reason” provision.
