Overview

Come with us to Canada’s far north and discover a vast array of wildlife, from bison, black bear, and moose to beluga whales and polar bears—Manitoba’s “Big Five.” Setting off from Winnipeg, you’ll search for wildlife in the environs of Riding Mountain National Park, which shelters three distinct ecosystems, boat on aptly named Clear Lake (you can see straight to the bottom), and hike a nature trail through Ominik Marsh, with its small lakes and meandering rivers. A charter flight whisks you to Churchill, where you’ll head out by boat into the Churchill River Estuary to see beluga whales as they gather to feed and give birth in the summer months, and view polar bears in their natural environment at the Churchill Wildlife Management Area, one of the best places to see polar bears in the wild. Wildlife drives here are aboard a Tundra Buggy®—a specially-designed vehicle that ensures your safety and comfort—and expert guides and researchers from Polar Bears International (PBI), the world’s leading polar bear conservation group, will be along to impart their extensive knowledge of this magnificent creature. And there’s plenty of time to visit an estate brewery (and taste their wares), explore the exhibits at the Itsanitaq Museum, with its enormous collection of Inuit artifacts that honor Churchill’s indigenous culture and history, and even go on a dog cart ride with a local dog musher!
