Trans-Siberian Express

From Moscow to Vladivostok aboard the Golden Eagle

What to Know Before You Go

A valid passport is required for participation in this program. It must be valid for at least six (6) months after you return home. If you do not have a passport, or if it is not valid for the correct length of time, you should apply for one as soon as possible. Please be sure you have at least one page for each country visited available in your passport for entry/exit stamps, and secure additional pages if necessary. We suggest that you carry a photocopy of your passport’s information page when you travel.

A visa is required for US Citizens traveling to Russia. Russian Visa support documents will be issued by the cruise operator and sent to you approximately 90 days prior to sailing so you can obtain your visa for this trip. Once you receive the Russian Invitation/Authorization Letter, you may contact our recommended passport and visa processing service, Passport Visas Express (PVE). You may also contact a local consulate to purchase your visa. Please call us for more details.  US citizens do not need a visa for Mongolia.

If you are a citizen of any country other than the US, check with a local consulate for entry requirements.

We recommend checking the Center for Disease Control should you have any international health concerns.

Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before your trip.  However, no inoculations are currently required for entry into any of the countries visited on this trip.  Russia and Norway.

Currency on board the Golden Eagle is US Dollars and Euros, and only cash payments can be accepted. Each cabin has a safe in which to store any valuables, such as cash. There will be little need for currency on board, other than for laundry, additional bar bills and on board souvenirs. It is possible to run a ‘tab’ on board and make one payment at the end of the tour.

We recommend you travel with small denominations and clean dollar bills for use off the train, as marked or torn US Dollar bills are sometimes not accepted. You will only require money for souvenirs and any shopping you may wish to do off the train. This can be paid for in local currency and in some instances in US Dollars. Your Tour Manager and/or guides will advise you on how, and if necessary, where to change money.
