Switzerland Private Journey

Ticino, Engadine, Glacier Express, and the Matterhorn

Trip Level

This trip is Level 2-3, Easy to Moderate. You'll enjoy day walks and hikes of 2-5 hours over variable hill and mountain trails, with occasional short, steep sections. You will carry just a daypack. Sturdy, well broken-in hiking boots are necessary for the rural trails of this area. For meals “on your own,” your guide will be happy to advise you on local restaurants. Please note that in Europe, the dinner hour is considerably later than what it is in the US, usually around 7:30 pm or later.

The weather in Switzerland varies from one region to the next. The Ticino region in the south is protected by the Alps, and the climate is Mediterranean, with early summer and fall daytime temperatures in the upper 60s. Engadine’s climate is more typically alpine, with summer daytime temperatures in the mid-40s. Zermatt has summer daytime temperatures between the 50s and 70s. Rain can occur at any time.
